New at Schoffelonderdelen.nl is the Hengers Wire Hoe. It was specially developed for hoeing sensitive crops on lighter sandy and peat soils.

Hoeing is becoming increasingly important

Mechanical hoeing is becoming increasingly important in agriculture. This is partly due to current and upcoming restrictions on crop protection products, but also because of changing weather conditions.

Hoeing helps control weeds and also loosens and aerates the soil, allowing more oxygen into the soil.

Dry Sand Can Shift

After extensive experience with mechanical hoeing in the field, we found that the current range of hoe blades is not ideal for every crop on lighter soils.

In dry conditions, A-blades, goosefoot blades and L-blades can start moving soil when there is a lot of crop residue or weed growth. Because A-blades and goosefoot blades work from the inside towards the outside, soil can be pushed onto the crop. This can cause significant damage to sensitive crops, such as young onions.

In most crops, combining an A-blade with a leaf protection disc is usually sufficient. The leaf protection disc prevents soil from being pushed onto the plants. This allows you to hoe precisely while keeping soil away from the crop.

With a crop such as onions, this is more difficult. When an A-blade or goosefoot blade starts moving soil, a leaf protection disc can be used to prevent soil from being pushed onto the onions. However, hoeing close to the onion plants becomes more difficult because the onion leaves often hang down. When hoeing with a leaf protection disc, the disc can damage the leaves by cutting them off. As a result, you cannot hoe as close to the plants or work as precisely.

The solution: the Wire Hoe

To solve these problems, we developed the Hengers Wire Hoe.

The Wire Hoe works from the outside towards the inside, preventing soil from being pushed onto the crop. The open design allows the soil to pass through freely. The upright wire pushes leaves and stems aside without damaging them.

In short: you can hoe very close to the plants without damaging the crop!

Specifications

The Wire Hoe consists of 7 mm curved wires made from galvanised spring steel.

The wires are attached to a special holder that fits almost any brand of hoeing machine. The holder has a 30 x 10 mm shank, the same size as conventional hoe blades.

This means the Wire Hoe fits into the standard blade holder and VibroMesh holder on Steketee / Lemken machines. It is also compatible with hoeing machines from other manufacturers, such as Hak, Einböck, Kress, Hatzenbichler, Carré, Schmotzer, Garford, and others.

The correct position of the Wire Hoe is fixed at the front of the holder using square plates. Once the correct position has been set, the Wire Hoe can be shortened to the required length.

Customising the Wire Hoe:

1. Set the correct working width

2. Shorten the left side

   Leave approximately 5 cm of space between the left and right wires. This allows soil, crop residue and weeds to pass through more easily.

3. Shorten the right side

   Always make sure that the right wire overlaps the left wire.
